Thoughts Lead To Appreciation
Each time Defence Headquarters, Abuja release photographs of cleared Boko Haram camps, the images are of tents under a tree in open spaces.
Sometimes, the tents, beddings and motorcycles are situated adjacent a beautifully painted wall or building.
Why are Boko Haram camps in the open in areas where the insurgents claim to control?
Boko Haram do not take over government buildings or offices for residential purposes.
Nor are they found in the homes of citizens executed or abducted.
Unless such buildings are reserved for commanders; foot soldiers sleeping under the elements.
An alternative explanation might be that Boko Haram do not operate services, i.e., they do not function as an alternative government.
Boko Haram have a policy of overrunning a village or town solely to cause fear.
They, then, either retreat to the outskirts of the town or remain in the village without influencing district activities.
The open residences may also be a defence strategy for easy escape when engaged by our heroes of the Nigerian Armed Forces.
That might be giving too much credit to creatures who murder, maim and rape to attain their notion of paradise.
