Thoughts Lead To Appreciation
Suleiman Abba is the Inspector-General Of Police ~IGP who lost his job for insisting on professional ethics of security and law enforcement.
The misdemeanour – as being principled is an offence to repressive minds – of the former chief of the Nigeria Police Force appears to be that he deployed an officer who believes in the law to supervise governorship elections in Rivers State.
To improve fair play and police efficiency for the presidential and gubernatorial elections, Suleiman Abba had reassigned senior police chiefs.
For the governorship and House Of Assembly elections, the Assistant Inspector-General ~AIG Tunde Ogunsakin was sent to Rivers State from Cross River.
On orders to recall the AIG, the former IGP initially disputed the interference of federal government politicians and reassured them of the AIG reputation as a disciplined officer.
At 05:00 hours on April 11, 2015 the day of state elections, Suleiman did withdraw the AIG.
To President Goodluck Jonathan, my principles regarding abuse of power is apt:
Some instructions deserve to be disobeyed.
Do not give the instruction in the first instance and its disobedience will not be an issue.
Interestingly, there have been reports of intrusions of Patience Jonathan, the First Lady, in the affairs of Rivers State.
With the sack of Suleiman Abba, those allegations start to become reality.
Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi had complained of insecurity of voters and ballots during the presidential elections.
The Governor further alleged the Nigeria Police were involved in vote rigging.
To correct the anomaly, then IGP Suleiman Abba sent a senior officer with a history as a no-nonsense security agent.
In addition, to Rivers were deployed four units of Counter-Terrorism Units ~CTU, 32 units of Police Mobile Force ~PMF, 4 units of Special Protection Units ~SPU and 6 crack teams of detectives of Force Criminal Investigation Department ~FCID.
For their impartiality, the Nigeria Police Force ~NPF had to watch as their boss was humiliated by the one person who ought to know better – President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
The appreciation Suleiman received for increasing the credibility of the elections was to be fired by Goodluck on Tuesday April 21, 2015.
Thank you, Suleman Abba. I appreciate you.
I am proud of the devotion to the law of the Nigeria Police Force.
