Thoughts Lead To Appreciation
This week in Saudi Arabia, a man was beheaded for torturing his two-year old son to death.
That is the very penalty for which I have campaigned for some time to curb the impunity of parents.
As it is typical of Muslims to perceive any inclination of Allah and His Messenger towards a particular authority as a licence to abuse persons in one’s jurisdiction, Muslims promote parental impunity behind a certain Hadeeth of the Messenger of Allah:
No parent should be killed for killing one’s child
I have previously called on the Ulema to review the Hadeeth to protect the rights of children.
It was with immense delight that I read the news that Saudi Ulema are conscious of their duty as the preservers of the Sunnah of the Prophet.
The execution of this man and other parents over the murder of a child is a clear indication parents lack the right of abuse.
It reduces the atrocities of unscrupulous parents who are assured they will not get away with murder.
The rights of children must be safeguarded against any abuse of power.
Another man lost his head for the brutal murder of his wife.
What more can I say?
My akada ~readers will be familiar with the theme of the vast majority of my writings – advocacy for rights and freedoms of women and children.
Allah be pleased with the Ulema and government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Aameen.
Sometimes, I am quietly furious at the Monarch on one or two pressing issues.
Nevertheless, the Saudi Arabian government should continue to do the right things the right way whether or not I and Muslims grasp the reason behind their actions.
