Thoughts Lead To Appreciation
As-Salam alaykum waRahmatuLlah waBarakatuH to all my akada.
Every Eid has a common DNA – unhindered delight and pleasures, the feeling of being in love, of falling in love.
Every Eid has its peculiarities.
This Eid, my sisters and brothers in Egypt face tyranny.
We grieve over Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Yemen and Syria.
This year, Egypt enters the list.
I am reminded of moments in the past when, out of care for and solidarity with my people in Afghanistan and elsewhere, I decided not to mark Eid though I could afford to do so.
Each time, the thoughts were promptly replaced with the thought of whether that would earn me Allah’s Pleasure.
Each time, I changed my mind and celebrated Eid and the One For Whom we celebrate Eid.
Rather than dwell on the pains of injustice, today, we must celebrate the joys of resilience.
Allah and His Messenger gave us a break today to indulge.
We must indulge.
Allah accepts our repentance.
