Thoughts Lead To Appreciation
There is no prohibition whatsoever on the Ulema interacting with rulers. Some of our Pious Predecessors did so. It is at the discretion of the Ulema.
The major reason Nigeria did not send troops against Afghanistan at the commencement of the so-called war on terror even though the then President was determined to do so, was that a Muslim (from the South) advised him against such a step. One Muslim helped to prevent that. Where were the advisors of the Pakistani government during that period?
Muslims are so engrossed in mediocrity that some blindly misplace their priorities. Muslims are permitted to divorce – both literally and figurative – and protect themselves from harm. Yet, women will rather endure harm that do that.
Several months ago – I cannot recall what I was researching on the internet – I came across the Fatwa of the Saudi Grand Mufti Shaykh Abdul-Aziz Ibn AbdAllah Aal Ash-Shaykh (I believe) of the permissibility of a woman to defend herself when attacked by an abusive husband.
My initial reaction was: “What is this man talking about?” Being more accustomed to reading anti-women venom from many men and women, I realised only after a few seconds that this man was defending women.
Yet, women have the mouth for those who are not interested in their murder, but lack liver to get those making them miserable off of their backs.
Women who cannot tell ‘men’ in their Pakistani communities to keep their silly ‘honour’ in their trouser pockets.
Instead, they endorse the mistreatment of women and some even participate in the murder of their own daughters.
On the other hand, there is a clear ban against opposing governments – and derogating the Ulema. But Muslims who are incompetent in regulating their personal lives willingly take on governments and the Ulema.
The reality is that the Arab spring has already occurred and Muslims in Syria need our help. But, no one should create fresh problems in order to solve another one.
